Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF)
Platelet rich fibrin (PRF) is a fibrin matrix in which platelet cytokines, growth factors, and cells are trapped and may be released after a certain time and that can serve as a resorbable membrane. PRF is used in oral and maxillofacial surgery to improve bone and gum healing in implant dentistry. Autologous PRF is considered to be a healing biomaterial.
The PRF process is a simple chair-side procedure. A small amount of blood will be drawn into tubes from your arm that isn’t different than when you have blood collected at the hospital. The next two steps of spinning your blood and retrieving the PRF are completed by us. Once your fibrin is retrieved, we will place the PRF into your grafting site at the time of surgery as part of your graft.
